Planning decisions - more guidance

As of 2nd April 2020, legislation has been released in draft and Regulation 5 (3) provides helpful and interesting guidance on the conditions that need to be met if the requirements for remote attendance are to be satisfied. Those conditions are based on the need for members in remote attendance to be heard and where possible, seen by others including members of the public and those who exercise a right to speak at the meeting, including those who too access remotely. The regulations do not extend to just District, Borough and County Councils; they apply to Parishes, National Park Authorities and Conservation Boards, among others to ensure their abilities to consult on planning applications are not impeded.

Planning decisions in a 'lock-down'

The Coronavirus Act proceeded through the House of Lords on 25th March to receive Royal Assent, with S.78(1) of the Act making provision for planning committee meetings to be undertaken remotely and without members being in the same place at the same time. Secondary legislation is required and is expected imminently given the urgency.

COVID-19 Government advise to keep working..

From Gov.UK site:

“Construction sites have not been asked to close, so work can continue if it is done safely…”Employers should ensure their workers on-site are able to follow the public health guidance..”

The reality is, it is very difficult to do construction work and keep a minimum of 2m away from each other. As well as responsibly manage all the other risks to our team and the public. We are for example often lifting heavy things needing help, so that thing has to be more than 2m long!

So for now our on-site projects are postponed until it is safe and responsible to start again.

In the meantime we are busy working up proposals for new project enquiries which we are doing remotely - a lot of conference calls.

We are very much open for business to receive enquiries and look forward to hearing from you.
